The Gruffalo
The Gruffalo is the first book that has been totally destroyed in reading and re-reading! It is so simple to memorize and rather funny so I can let my baby have her way with the book even as I recite most of it for her. The rhyme is ABCB for the most part so the text isn’t terribly contrived and leaves room for whimsical prose even though it’s driven by a refrain in both the buildup to the climax and the denouement. A plucky mouse weaving its way through a deep, dark wood with scary predators- fox, owl and snake and eventually the fantastic Gruffalo - there simply enough good things to say about the book. It’s extremely British in favoring David over Goliath, pluck, humour and whimsy. She lapped it up from the moment it arrived and dragged the sturdy board book around everywhere. I was so pleased I got her a stroller book of Gruffalo sounds that she unfortunately chews and Gruffalo gear from our favourite Mori. So soft and pretty and hopefully inspiring. W...
